Why Should I Switch Suppliers?

In short, because you could be spending less money on your energy.

Our friends can’t guarantee you a cheaper deal than your current one, but it’s worth taking a few minutes to check. When switching with us is quick, easy, and 100% free, why pay more?

The energy switching service also gives you a good look at what else is out there. Our friends compare more suppliers than any other energy comparison site, so you can explore a huge number of possible energy switch deals for your home. It’s always worth checking back every now and then to see if you could be saving even more.

You could also switch to a new type of contract. If you choose to move to a fixed tariff, you’ll always pay the same fixed rate. No more unexpected price hikes! Make budgeting easier and put your mind at ease, so you can focus on more important things.

After switching suppliers, what do I need to do?

After you’ve chosen your new energy supplier, our friends will contact your existing supplier to let them know you’re switching. Once we get the green light from them, you’ll get an email confirming the switch.

Following that, your details will be passed on to your new supplier. They will contact you to let you know the date your new tariff will start. Make sure you take a meter reading on this date, so that you’re charged the correct amount.

Congratulations! Now you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the savings. Thanks to the Energy Switch Guarantee, you should wait no more than 21 days for your tariff to be switched.

It really is that quick and easy.

Will I be charged a cancellation fee for leaving my current supplier?

This is up to your current supplier, and is dependent on the status and terms and conditions of your current contract. It’s worth checking with your supplier to check if there’s anything you’ll have to pay before switching, to avoid any surprise charges.

Exit fees are often dependent on the type of contract you’re on. A standard variable tariff usually means you can switch any time you like. However, with a fixed-term plan you’ll usually be charged if you choose to switch energy suppliers.

However, if you switch energy suppliers in the last 49 days of your tariff, your current supplier can’t charge you any exit fees. This is a great time to check if you could be getting a better deal on your energy elsewhere.

Like exit fees, cancellation fees are also dependent on your current supplier. Many suppliers have chosen to scrap cancellation fees completely, though some still use them. Make sure you check before making any changes to your energy.

How long is my cooling-off period?

14 days. This applies for any supplier or tariff you’ll find on our energy comparison website, starting the day after you agree to your contract with your new energy supplier.

If you’re not sure your chosen deal is right for you, you can reverse the switch at any point within those 14 days and remain with your original supplier. You’ll have plenty of time to make sure your new energy plan is 100% right for you.

What happens if I’m moving house?

Moving house is stressful enough without having to worry about moving to a new energy supplier. That’s why we’ve outlined the whole process below, broken down into simple steps:

Before you move:

  • Let your supplier know you're moving, with at least 48 hours’ notice.

  • On the day you move out, read the meters and give the readings to your supplier. Keep a note of them in case you wish to contest your final bill.

  • Give your supplier your new address where they can send your final bill.

After you move:

  • Contact the current supplier of your new property to tell them you've moved in.

  • Read the meters and give them to the current supplier to make sure your first bill is accurate.

  • Pay your first bill when you receive it.

If you’re moving house, this is the perfect time to switch your energy supplier. It’s likely that your new home’s energy plan isn’t the best deal you could be getting. Take a look at what else is out there, you may be surprised at the savings!

No, our friends energy switching service is 100% free. A hassle-free switch, without charge.

Do I have to switch?

Not at all. Whether you’re taking a look at what else is out there, or seriously considering a new tariff, you are never pressured to switch. Instead, our friends provide you with all the advice and information you need, so you can be confident in your decision.

Even if you decide to stay on your current energy plan, you’ll do so knowing you’re getting the best deal for you. When comparing tariffs on our friends website, you'll find a vast range of energy deals, suited to your specific needs.

Will my energy supply be interrupted if I switch?

No, your energy supply will not be interrupted at any point.

As there is no change to the energy supply itself, there is no need to worry about interruptions. If you’ve chosen to switch to a cheaper deal, the only difference you’ll notice will be cheaper energy bills.

How long does it take to switch energy suppliers?

If your new energy supplier is signed up to the Energy Switch Guarantee, you’ll be switched within 21 days upon confirmation of your change in supplier. If not, the switch will typically take 4-6 weeks, depending on the supplier.

There is no interruption to your supply when you switch, and you’ll be kept up to date, and notified once it has been completed.

Do I need to contact my supplier if I want to switch?

If you're using our energy switching service, there's no need to contact your existing supplier - we handle everything for you, from start to finish.

Once you choose the new energy tariff you'd like to switch to, they will contact your current supplier and let them know you’ll be moving to a new deal.

You may need to perform some meter readings so all information is kept up-to-date. In this case, your new supplier should contact you to either ask you for these readings, or to arrange to do the readings themselves.
